CODE OF ETHICS FAQs

Below are frequently asked questions regarding the Code of Ethics (COE) requirements. This section outlines when the changes took effect and where to complete the course. View NAR’s FAQS here.

1. Didn't I take this class when I renewed my license?
No, this course is separate from the hours required for license renewal.
2. I don't see my certificates for my classes.
Depending on where you completed the course, you must email your certification to
info@rocc.realtor
3. Is there CE credit for this course?
This course offers CE Continuing Education (CE) credits. The local association must determine whether the CE course meets the minimum criteria and mandatory learning objectives.
4. How often do I have to take this course?
You are required to take this course every three years.
5. Ethics is part of the legal update; do I still have to follow the Code of Ethics?
The Code of Ethics is no longer included in the legal class. You must take a separate ethics course if you are not in cycle 8.
6. Is this the Division of Real Estate requirement?
No, this is a requirement from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).
7. When does the current cycle (Cycle 8) end and the next cycle (Cycle 9) begin?
Cycle 8 begins January 1, 2025, and ends December 31, 2027. Cycle 9 will begin on January 1, 2028.
8. Can a member satisfy the training requirement by taking a course from an approved provider at an association that is not their primary board?
Yes. Consistent with current NAR policy, members who take a course at a different association of REALTORS® will satisfy the Code of Ethics training requirement. If a member takes a course through a partnered provider of an association in their state or a neighboring state, an association must accept it for the Code of Ethics training requirement. If a course is taken from a partnered provider outside of those limits, it is up to each local association if they choose to accept it.
12. Do REALTOR® Emeritus Members have to complete the triennial Code of Ethics Training?
No, REALTOR® Emeritus Members are exempt from the Code of Ethics Training requirement.
13. How long can a member be suspended for not completing their REALTORS® ethics training? And what if I don't complete the course?
Failure to meet the requirement for any three-year cycle will result in suspension of membership for the first two months (January and February) of the year following the end of any three (3) year cycle or until the requirement is met, whichever occurs sooner. On March 1 of that year, the membership of a
member who is still suspended as of that date will be automatically terminated.
14. What are the consequences of membership suspension?
If a REALTOR® is suspended, all rights, privileges, and services provided by the Board/Association (including those by the State and National Associations) are temporarily withdrawn. Suspension lasts between 30 days and one year, depending on the violation, but membership obligations—such as abiding by the Code of Ethics and paying dues—continue. For example, if suspension results from not completing ethics training, all REALTOR® privileges are revoked until the training is completed. Once the requirement is met, privileges are restored immediately. However, if the training is not completed within the suspension period, membership will be terminated.
