I contacted the actual owner, who confirmed he was not selling his property. The scammer could not produce any documentation to me. Jillian was contacted by the same person, he gave her fake documents as well. Rainey Scam Alert Reported by: Laura Ostrom | Member reported: Received a lead through my website from an individual claiming to own vacant land located at 16109 Rocky Mountain Road in Sunshine Acres and wanting to sell the property to help pay for vehicle transmission repairs. We exchanged several emails and discussed a listing plan. When I requested a copy of the seller's driver's license to verify identity, communication immediately stopped.I used FOREWARN to locate contact information for the actual property owner and reached out directly. The owner confirmed that he was not the individual communicating with me. Name Used: Oren Allbritton | Email Used: allbrittonoren@outlook.com Scam Alert Reported by: Amy Rhude | Member reported:I was at a class today in Denver and learned of an agent going through a crazy hack/identity stealing issue with RE Colorado. Someone took his information that is publicly known (license name, license number, email address) and contacted RE Colorado to change his email address - from his brokerage email. They did it and the hackers also changed this with ShowingTime and other subscriptions he had with his brokerage email. He caught it when other realtors were asking how showings went and someone at RE Colorado knew him and thought it was odd that he changed his address. So, unfortunately, the scammers gained access to these homes. Email Change Impersonation Scam: Multiple associations (including ROCC) are seeing callers pretend to be members in order to change the member’s email address and gain unauthorized MLS access. To protect your account: -We may ask extra verification questions before changing your email or MLS access. This is for your protection.-If the request appears at all suspicious, we will call the phone number on file to verify the change.-Contact us immediately if you see password reset emails or login alerts you did not request.-Protect your email account with strong passwords and multi-factor authentication. Fake Buyer Video Meeting Scam (Zoom/Google Meet, etc.): Scammers pose as prospective buyers, ask to schedule a virtual showing, and then send a fraudulent video meeting link. Clicking these links can install malware andcompromise your computer. To protect yourself: -Verify the person before clicking: Ask for a phone number and call them back. She felt something was off and did some research and found that I am the realtor who sold the Burks this lot. I contacted the Burks and they are definitely NOT selling. They have contacted the county and I let them know that I would contact you so that you could let our realtor group know that their lot is not for sale! He ran this through the Colorado Real Estate Commission and found Full Circle Real Estate Groups' number affiliated with my name. He then contacted me to see if I was a member of "Realty Advisors" out of Denver. I am not and only work out of BV and the direct surrounding counties. Also the photo of me is not me. The same text came in twice. I asked him to send me the listing information and got the typicalcopy-pastee from county records. Used Forewarn to check the number and it does not come back from Alan Bushwack. I text back letting the "owner" know we use a program to ensure client safety and I required a copy of a valid DV - no passports. Shockingly, I didn't get a response back. They were asking for me to send a listing agreement and CMA via Docusign for signatures. I have seen similar situations from other scammers using Zillow as a platform. Red Flags-The grammar they were using was not quite right on the email they sent. They signed their names with middle initials and provided to much information. It just did not seem right to me. Member Reported: I received a lead on Zillow stating they wanted to sell a lot in the Buena Vista area. I was suspicious about the message they sent me with how they organized the grammar. They were asking for me to send a listing agreement and CMA via Docusign for signatures. I have seen similar situations from other scammers using Zillow as a platform. Red Flags-The grammar they were using was not quite right on the email they sent. They signed their names with middle initials and provided to much information. It just did not seem right to me. Scam Alert: under the name Vincent Dunn Scam Alert- Member Reported: I just received a call and then a follow-up email from a "Roger L McFarland" wanting to sell a lot at 3617 Singletree in RORA. Something didn't look or sound right, so I did some research and found the number of the actual Roger L McFarland, who I then called. He is NOT interested in selling either of his lots in RORA at this time! (3617 Singletree and 3675 Singletree). He was very grateful for the phone call... I could barely make out his English. I told him that if he wanted me to list his land, he would need to send me his ID showing me his name is Scott Bradley and then I never heard anything back. It was clearly a scam so I just wanted to alert you. I looked up this guy‘s name, Scott Bradley this is what I found. I just thought I’d let you guys know. Thanks. I texted the guy but only got a vague response back, then the other one said he wanted to sell 14787 Quartz Circle in Weldon Creek, which I helped the Miller's buy in 2018. I emailed the Millers and they aren't looking to sell their land, so it's for sure a scam. My guess is the other vacant lot is 12210 SADDLE RIDGE LN, since the email has herzog in it. I had a text message from an individual requesting communication by WhatsApp with her boss. This was the first warning sign. We exchanged a couple of messages and he informed me he was in San Francisco looking for a home in the $1.5M to $2.0 range yet could go higher if the property was right. I sent him a couple of listings and he chose one he liked (still no phone contact). He asked me to go video the property. I told him I needed to verify identity before I could do this. I haven't heard back since. In the messaging feed, he also mentioned that he was an investor in crypto/blockchain. He asked if I had experience with these types of transactions and how they relate to real estate (another warning sign). I have spoken to one other broker who also had a similar exchange. Might be worth putting an alert out for other brokers.
